A little bit of history

Scoil Pádraig Naofa was opened in 1933. The manager was Reverend Thomas Canon Crean Lynch. The principal was Mr. Charlie Murphy N.T. The assistant teacher was Mrs. Dunleavy. On the opening day, eighty-five pupils enrolled. Many had transferred from Lackagh N.S. but also from Carnmore, Coolarne, Annagh and Oranmore while eighteen children came to school for the first time that day. More pupils enrolled during the year.

By 1966, the school had outgrown the original two classrooms and an extra classroom with a flat roof was added on. During the summer of 1968, a pump was sunk on the east corner of the school and the pupils and teachers enjoyed the luxury of running water for the first time! New toilets and wash basins were added. The old windows were replaced; the floors tiled and concrete paths were laid around the building. There were shelters built behind the school. Mr. Henry Duggan of Kiltrogue did much of this work.In 1978, Farragher’s of Tuam built the present school and the old school was demolished.

The old school was situated much nearer the road than the present building.A new extension was built in 2005 and the school now caters for over 200 pupils.
